KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- The 2009 Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition (LIMA 2009) will be held in Langkawi from December 1-5 next year at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, said here today. ADVERTISEMENT
Abdullah, who is also Defence Minister, said that the expo was one of the largest defence and civil showcases in the world regularly attracting the global maritime and aerospace industry to the legendary island.
LIMA, which was previously co-organised by two separate maritime and aerospace organisers, will from next year onwards be replaced by a single organising structure, he told a press conference.
HW LIMA Sdn Bhd, the organiser of the highly-successful maritime segment of LIMA since 1997, is now the overall organiser.
Abdullah, who officially launched LIMA 2009 today to mark the beginning of preparations for the event, also witnessed seven major corporations ink deals to signify their participation as exhibitors for LIMA 2009.
They are BAE Systems (U.K.), Boustead Naval Shipyard, Eurocopter, National Aerospace Defence Industries Sdn Bhd, Thales Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Sapura Group of Companies and FINCANTIERI (Italy).

The 21,321 sqm Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre will be the venue for both the maritime and aerospace exhibitions for 2009, moving away from the traditional two venue, two organizer structure.
HW LIMA Sdn Bhd, the organizer of the maritime component since LIMA ’97, is selected by the Government of Malaysia to spearhead LIMA ’09. This change is aimed at value creation and will establish an exceptional setting in which to network, achieve sales and facilitate business deals.
A single venue will deliver increased visitors to the exhibition, presenting a more cohesive delegates programme and maximising delegates’ time at the exhibition by merging common facilities and abolishing travel time between venues. More importantly, it reduces cost of participation for exhibitors with dual participation.

LANGKAWI, Nov 29 - Despite having been around for nearly two decades, the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2009 (LIMA 2009) is hardly short on 'firsts' and fresh elements as it enters 10th edition next week.
Like the legendary status accorded the island where the event will be held, LIMA is set to continue maintaining its iconic status, in as far as appeal and relevance are concerned.
If previous LIMA editions were usually co-hosted by two different maritime and aerospace organisers, what's distinctive this year is that there is just a single organiser.
HW Lima Sdn Bhd, the maritime segment host since 1997, has been mandated to solely host this year's LIMA edition at the island from Dec 1 to 5.
"We are building on our good work done previously. We believe this year's LIMA will proceed smoothly," said HW Lima managing director Ahmad Dzuhri Abdul Wahab.
