Langkawi and Labuan to host water festival KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Water Festival is back and this time it is being held at two locations - Langkawi and Labuan. Tourism Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Victor Wee said the event was expected to draw a crowd of more than 120,000 at both locations. "We expect a big crowd to come this time around, which is why we have decided to expand the event to two locations at different times, but all in the month of April," he said at a press conference to announce the event at the Tourism Ministry on Tuesday. The Langkawi segment of the festival will be held from April 3 to 5 with 155 beach and sea activities with the aim of entering the Malaysia Book of Records. There are RM150,000 worth of prizes to be won in Langkawi. Among the main activities in Langkawi are a creative family picnic, beach sumo, remote-controlled power boat demonstration, beach rugby, football, netball and swimming competitions. The Labuan segment will be held from April 19 to 27 with six main activities - the Labuan tug-of-war, Labuan-Brunei International Extreme Kayak Challenge, Labuan International Game Fishing Tournament, Round-Island Kayak Challenge, Labuan International Boat Race and the Labuan Cross Channel Swimming Challenge. Wee said more than 30 teams and 200 individuals from Britain, the United States, Australia, China, Singapore and New Zealand had shown interest in taking part in the festival. OUR ADVISE |
